The Challenge
Balancing the scale of a generous residence with the intimacy of home means bringing pitched rooflines, tall glazing and substantial stone elements into one cohesive and welcoming composition.
The architectural challenge lies in connecting the broad wings through a clear central focal point. The entrance must hold its own against the roofscape, while careful proportions and contrasting textures soften the overall scale and establish an inviting relationship with the surrounding landscape.
The solution
A glazed entrance sits beneath a crisp rectangular portico, framed by tapered stone pillars. Layered tiled roofs lend familiarity, while dark window frames and pale walls bring clarity and balance to the overall composition.
The curved driveway guides the approach, with low planting keeping the entrance in view. Textured stone gives the façade depth, offsetting the smooth walls and reflective glazing. Above, the central gable connects the entrance to the surrounding rooflines. These elements create a measured progression from the landscaped forecourt to the sheltered threshold, giving the home a distinctive, welcoming presence.
